About a year ago, we started a small EcoPico planted tank from Ecoxotic. The planted tank project was great, we used a little flourite, a small plant and driftwood.

Well over the course of the year we added a few more plants and they took off in the tank. The plant growth (which we believe comes from the power provided by the Arm light) was so intense the plants just basked in the “sun.” Realizing our Platy’s were running out of room, we decided it was time to upgrade. Therefore, we purchased a small 10 gallon tank, replaced the flourite, added another piece of driftwood and doubled the size of the planted tank. Below are a few pics (before & after), enjoy!

Recently DA placed a poll on our Facebook Page asking what we should do with our recently acquired EcoPico Aquarium from Ecoxotic. The question asked whether we should setup a small reef, a freshwater tank or take the plunge and create a planted tank. Well, we decided to jump into the fray and start a planted tank. Below are the steps we took in setting up the tank.

Step 1. Get an Aquarium (Here we used an EcoPico from Ecoxotic)

Step 2. Select a proper planted tank substrate (CaribSea FloraMax)

Step 3. Wash the substrate (Although Caribsea says it won’t get cloudy, wash the substrate anyway because it will).

Since the blog started over six months ago the goal was to begin uploading videos to YouTube showcasing products and creating how to demonstrations. Well, we finally reached one goal. Yesterday DA had the chance to sit down with Ecoxotic and they showed us their new toys. Not “new” toys, but the ones that you have seen on their YouTube Channel.

We took a few pictures and asked some questions about their products and how they are setting the bar for LED fixtures in the aquarium industry. Allow us some time to post the article, because after all we do have jobs. Have a great day!
