Breeding Berghia Part II

Aiptasia after being fed

It’s been about one week since we set up the Berghia breeder system. Since taking existing tank water and setting up the filter the system everything appears to be working out just fine. Thus far, the aquarium has been cycling for about a week. In addition, we added six (6) Aiptasia anemones to the tank.

Aiptasia added to system

Our Aiptasia anemones were pulled from my 180 gallon aquarium that were located in the overflow. Due to the livestock that I have in my tank the only place where Aiptasia seems to be easily found is in the overflow area. AquaMaxx GFO & BioPellet filters

IMG_0913

We posted a few pictures to our Flickr stream, but AquaMaxx Aquariums has released new Biopellet and GFO based filters. The filters are unique because the bottom plates of each filter are precision cut but create randomized flow inside the reactor ensuring water is fully filtered and does not pass thry the media.

Acclimating your livestock.

Today, I was answering an email about how you properly acclimate a fish to a quarantine tank. This is a great question, because not everybody quaranties their livestock. Well, when acclimating you can do a few things, one is to float the bag for 30 mins allowing the temperatures to match and then placing the fish in a container and start a drip.

The best way to start a drip is to use a Two Little Fishies Veggie Mag Clip and some airline tubing. The mag clip secures the tubing in place. Then start a siphon and then tie a small knot on the end dripping into the container.

After 30-45 mins then insert the fish into the temporary QT home. If you have any questions, send us an email to info@dailyaquatics.com!

The so called “light bulb ban” will be codified and enacted by 2012. Whether you agree with the law or not, it was passed in 2007 and signed into law by then President George W. Bush.

This relates to the hobby because some of us (myself included) use metal halide lamps. Some manufacturers use technology that falls under the ban. The law calls for older inefficient lamps to be phased out and replaced with efficient incandescent, compact fluorescents and LEDs.
Recently Texas Congressman Joe Barton introduced a bill that would scale back ...
